Asia Citizen Future Association stands in solidarity with ASEAN SOGIE Caucus and LGBTQIA+ community in Indonesia

ACFA aims to connect civil society between Southeast Asia and Taiwan in order to confront the trend of the closing of civic space. We learn that ASEAN Queer Advocacy Week (AAW), which is organised by a Philippines-based rights group ASEAN SOGIE Caucus and Indonesia-based Arus Pelangi and other activists, is currently facing waves of digital attacks and security threats, which had led to its cancellation.

ACFA issues this statement to show our solidarity with ASEAN Queer Advocacy Week, the amazing organizers and a broader LGBTQIA+ communities and LGBTQIA+ rights organisations in the region. We respect diversity in culture, religion, and gender and sexuality. We condemn all forms of discrimination and violation against ASEAN Queer Advocacy Week, and persons and communities based on their SOGIESC.

All persons are entitled to safely and openly practice their rights to peaceful assembly, expression and association. We call on the governments, regional institutions and stakeholders to take necessary actions to protect the fundamental human rights to peaceful assembly, expression and association of LGBTQIA+ community in Indonesia and make them be able to safely and openly enjoy practicing their rights to gather together 🌈.
