Amid a society turning increasingly conservative, MANDIRI, a Malaysian youth activist group, has chosen to believe in and support the power of young people. They organize and empower youth and student activists, connecting universities across Malaysia and building a space for movement activists. They join struggles against police brutality, authoritarianism, and inequality.
How did they do it? What impact has this movement brought to Malaysian society? In such challenging conditions, in order for youth to develop the critical consciousness and capacity to drive social change, what exactly are the necessary environment, resources, and networks? This talk invites Mohamad Alshatri, co-founder of MANDIRI, to share their experiences and journey.
